The CCO Workshop is a one day conference where the goal is to facilitate open and transparent conversation between all parties in the construction industry. Understanding the obstacles and challenges of the contractors, consultants or owners helps facilitate smoother and more efficient construction projects.

This year’s theme of Together We Build aims to bring ideas and discussions to the table on how the construction industry as a whole can share their community involvement and proactively work towards benefiting our communities without being forced into compliance.

Mike Jacobs

CEO @ Emil Anderson Construction

Mike Jacobs, P.Eng, graduated from UBC with a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering. After a short term with the City of Vancouver Engineering Department, Mike completed a Masters Degree in Construction Management at Stanford University. He joined Emil Anderson Construction in 1988 and currently holds the role of CEO.

Adrienne Staley

Associate @ PIHL Law Corporation

Adrienne is an associate at Pihl Law Corporation with a focus on employment law, commercial litigation, and personal injury. Adrienne has a wealth of experience drafting employment agreements and policies for employers, as well as assisting employees and employers with wrongful termination suits, human rights complaints, Work Safe BC complaints and Employment Standards complaints. In her commercial litigation practice, Adrienne is focused on helping business people and professionals swiftly and effectively resolve their disputes.

Rory Kulmala

CEO @ Vancouver Island Construction Association

Rory Kulmala is the CEO of the Vancouver Island Construction Association (VICA). As CEO, Rory represents over 450 members in the commercial, industrial, institutional and multi-residential sectors on Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast. He has developed initiatives that support social procurement strategies within the various communities on the Island and is co-leading an initiative to develop and host the Island’s Social Procurement Hub.

Doreen Buksner

Senior Manager, Immigration Services @ BDO Canada

Doreen is a Senior Manager and Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant, responsible for Canadian temporary and permanent residence immigration matters. She supports corporate and individual clients with various Canadian work permit and entry visa requirements including Labour Market Impact Assessments, Electronic Travel Authorizations, and inadmissibility applications. She also assists clients in understanding their immigration obligations and represents them in employer compliance reviews, audits, and inspections.

Joanne Sun

Tax Partner @ BDO Canada

Joanne currently oversees the expatriate tax services practice for Western Canada and is also the national leader of BDO’s immigration services practice. With over 20 years of experience providing tax compliance and consulting services to a range of medium and large enterprises, including engineering and construction companies. For over 13 years, she has partnered with global mobility managers to ensure a seamless worldwide mobility plan for their people.

Sonia Sahota

Partner @ Civic Legal LLP

For over 12 years, Sonia has practiced in the areas of local government, public procurement, construction, and land development law. Prior to law, Sonia practiced as a professional engineer for 10 years in civil and geotechnical design and construction.

Courtney MacRae

Lawyer @ PIHL Law

Courtney is a lawyer at Pihl Law Corporation practicing in the areas of business law and real estate law. She has worked with a variety of clients and is experienced in all aspects of residential real estate transactions, as well as navigating the legal intricacies involved in establishing or growing a business. Courtney’s experience and enthusiasm help her clients succeed in their next stage of life, whether its buying a home, or growing their business.

David Claassen

Lawyer @ Jenkins Marzban Logan LLP

David’s practice is focused on dispute resolution in commercial, construction, and regulatory matters. David assists his clients in all aspects of the dispute resolution process, including in court, arbitration, mediation, or during settlement negotiations. Prior to joining JML, David practiced for five years at a commercial litigation boutique in Vancouver, where his practice focused on complex commercial cases and class actions.

Nathan MacDermott

Nathan is an associate at Pihl Law Corporation practicing in civil and commercial litigation, with an overall focus on construction matters. Nathan has worked on a broad number of matters, assigning with civil, commercial and construction disputes, as well as with the negotiation of settlements and the drafting of contracts and other agreements. What is the CCO Workshop?

The CCO Workshop is a one day conference hosted by the Southern Interior Construction Association. The goal of the conference is to facilitate open and transparent conversation between all parties in the construction industry.

CCO stands for Contractor, Consultant, and Owner. Representing the important relationship that each of the parties brings to the table of a construction project.

Why should I attend?
